Not for Valentine’s!

I was asked by one of my husband’s colleagues to make a card for her mum’s birthday. At first she said I could make whatever I wanted, but I find that very hard.  There are simply too many options, and I’m quite self conscious about making cards that other people will give away. Besides; card making is all about being able to personalize the card for the recipient with colors, motives, sentiment, etc. So I asked for some directions…and got; Warm colors, Prima flowers and lots of Hearts. Now we’re talking – that I can work with!  😆

I found the perfect sketch for the card on the Roses on Paper Challenge Blog. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to enter into their challenge as I don’t own any stamp of their featured brands (Belles ‘n Whistles, Magnolia, Alota, Greeting Farm or Bildmålarnas). Can you believe that even though I’m Swedish I don’t own a single Magnolia stamp? It’s a total disgrace, I know. 😉 Next time I’m visiting my sister in Gothenburg, I’ll make sure we pay “Knalleland”, where the Magnolia Shop is located, a visit. It’s not more than 56 km/35 miles drive – just checked… But for now there’s always the Magnolia Web Shop… 😛

Anyway; I did find some other Challenges I could enter this card into, namely:

Fussy & Fancy – Challenge #3 Hearts
Secret Crafter – Challenge #68 Hearts
Creative Belli Blog – Challenge #83 Hearts

Can you tell Valentine’s is approaching?!

"Willow with Flowers", Whiff of Joy

I started by coloring the image with my Copics. I then cut it out and glued it on to foam, before attaching it to the white oval, which I cut out with my Nesties. I embossed the oval with my “Stylized flowers” embossing folder, and added some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Tea Dye) around the edge. (On the outer pink frame, I added dots with my Inkessentials Opaque Pen.) I also distressed the heart lace border and the sentiment. For the sentiment I used the font “Chopin Script” and believe it or not, but it’s not until now, when I’m writing this, that I’m realizing the coincidence. I’d normally have used Freeboter or Scriptina, but this time I happened to pick Chopin…for a sentiment in French! I don’t know French myself, but the sentiment translates into something like “Happy Birthday to the most marvelous of all mums, mine!” I hope both daughter and mum will like the card.
