With more than a week to go until Valentine’s Day, I had not intended to make my Valentine’s card until some time next week, but after having done some serious blog hopping and seen so many gorgeous cards I got inspired… Also; with so many current challenges having Love and Valentine’s themes, I figured I just couldn’t miss out….
Over at Simon Says this week’s challenge is to make a card using the underneath picture as inspiration. Also the Creative Card Challenge Blog has ”Red Roses” as theme. Not only did I use red roses as embellishments, the background paper from Magnolia also has got red roses on it. I found 4 challenges that had “Valentine’s” as theme and another 8 that had some sort of” Love” related theme. Then there were 2 that had “Hearts” as their theme, and Your Next Stamp requested “Charms”. The Norweigan blog Sukkersoett wants to see cards for “someone you care for”. This card is for my husband, whom I love for many reasons, one of them being putting up with me locking myself up in my craft’s room for hours and hours making cards… 😉
Then over at the Incy Wincy Designs the theme is “Put your Hats on”. Are you still with me, are you still counting? Only one more, as we’re now up to twenty and I figured enough is enough. This is starting to get a bit silly now and I ought to make some cards instead of just hopping around looking for challenges that my card qualifies for. 😛 However, I thought I mention that I’ve come across a blog that has exactly this as a theme. It’s called PILE IT ON! The whole idea behind this blog is to challenge yourself to incorporate as many challenges as possible into one project. This blog lists if not all, probably most of the challenges that are out there in card and scrapbooking blog land, so if you’re looking for new challenges this is the place to visit!
So the final challenge I’ve entered my card into is the ABC Challenge, and this is less of an obvious one; they would like you to use something “New” from your stash. I used lots of new things for this card; the heart pins I ordered from Quixotic Paperie and received on Tuesday this week and the lace I recently bought from the Swedish webshop Pysseltagen. The red roses I got last week from HobbyCraft, and finally the lovely Sarah Kay stamp ” A Kiss for Chloe” I ordered about a month ago with Valentine’s in mind. This is the first time I’ve used it and I have got two more new ones that I hope I’ll get to ink up soon. I love the detailed image, but it took me ages to color it… I think the time I spent on this image I could easily have colored 3-4 Anyas!
As I always do these days, I colored the image with my Copics. I don’t make a lot of red cards (mostly just at Christmas time), and I find coloring red with Copics quite tricky. However, there’s an excellent tutorial video on this by Suzanne Dean. As a matter of fact, she has done plenty of very helpful video tutorials on the subject of Coloring with Copics. She’s also put together several pdf tutorials, which can be downloaded from her website. Particularly useful is the Copic Hair Color Samples/Chart. Speaking of hair; Chloe was supposed to have been a blonde, but despite several attempts I just couldn’t get it right, so she turned ginger instead! Lately I’ve buying mostly stamps & embellishments, but I really need to invest into some more Copic markers, as I don’t have many tones for blonde hair. 🙁
This time I couldn’t find any sketch that fit my image; the idea of the lay out comes from one of Camilla’s Cards. If you’re not familiar with the incredibly talented Norwegian Camilla, I urge you to check out her blog ASAP. She designs for Whiff of Joy and A Spoon Full of Sugar amongst others. She’s also a DT member of Magnolia, and her Magnolia cards are just AMAZING! She has a blog dedicated to Magnolia Cards, so make sure you check that one out as well!
