A couple of weeks ago, I was showing my husband a lovely card made by the talented Janiel on the Color Create Blog, where the color combo was “Burnt Orange, Black & Cream”. His immediate reaction was ” you never make cards in black”. Very true indeed; I hardly ever use black on my cards, so when time came to make his birthday card, I instantly knew which color to use.
The most recent male birthday card I had made had been in dark blue & orange (prior to this I had almost exclusively been making male cards in brown & blue). Not sure why I haven’t thought about it before, but orange is actually very suitable for male cards, thus I decided to stick with the Color Create’s Color Combo for this card.
It’s always hard making male cards, but I was helped by this great sketch from the Sweet Sketch Wednesday Blog. I have rotated the sketch as I thought it fitted better with the little boy looking to the left.
My one rule when it comes to making male cards is to try avoiding using flowers to decorate the card, but rather other embellishments such as brads & buttons instead. In this instance, the flowers have been replaced with some really cool brads that I bought such a long time ago that I cannot even remember where… 😳
